Bone Grafting

Dr. Leedy will discuss whether you need a bone graft to regrow bone in cases where an extracted tooth will be replaced with a dental implant, bridge, or partial denture. Placing a bone graft after a tooth extraction is almost always advantageous since it offers minimal to no discomfort after the procedure, faster overall healing, and maintains proper density and width of bone for future implant placement or partial denture support.

Dr. Leedy may suggest using your body’s own regenerative cells through a procedure called Platelet Rich Fibrin, or PRF. Dr. Leedy and his team are trained in phlebotomy, or the harvesting of blood, that is gathered from the right or left arm just like when visiting your physician for blood work. A vial of your blood is spun in a centrifuge for over ten minutes. The result is a concentration of platelet rich fibrin to be placed in the extraction site. It is rich in regenerative properties and is 100% compatible with you.

The combination of PRF and bone graft material provides optimal healing, resulting in strong bone that can support a dental implant long-term.
